FAQs
Why have a group for husbands and fathers?
- Men are being asked by their partners and families to participate more in their relationships and most men are wanting to do it well but lack the skills. Most of us are not formally taught the basics of parenting or marriage.
- Make the world a better place. Good husbands and fathers create good husbands and fathers and the opposite is true.
Is this group for me?
- The information presented is based on creating and strengthening connection with those who are most important to you. If you can get behind that, then this group is for you.
- That is also partly for you to answer. If you are in the place where you can prioritize improving in these two roles, then I urge you to register. However, timing matters and you can always reach out and connect with me in other ways later.
Why not just listen to a podcast?
- Please do! There is a ton of good information out there. That said, as you may have found, there are also a lot of uninformed opinions out there. Your presenter(me) is a licensed professional, experienced at running groups and the information presented is clinically informed and gathered from research based approaches to marital issues and parenting.
Why to choose a group and not just individual?
- The group is the key ingredient. Typically and hopefully, the group consists of a wide range of ages and with that comes different experiences and wisdom. The facilitator shares the topic but the group members give it life.
- In individual therapy you will learn about your self and your approach to parenting and marriage from within the relationship you create with your therapist. There is certainly a benefit but some are not comfortable with the one-on-one approach and could benefit from a broader discussion that allows you to process your inner changes with others and reflect together.
Why groups work?
- Again, groups work because the experiences of the members give the topic life. Moreover, they give it credibility. The group can pick apart an idea and or reform it to fit the real context it is being applied to.
Price? Is the juice worth the squeeze?
Your average divorce cost between $20,000-$60,000. People spend thousands of dollars on their wedding and even more on divorce, why not take care of the initial investment?
Can I make improvement 6 weeks?
Not everything is sprint but this is. It is not a quick fix but a focused effort to develop skills that will help you over a lifetime.
Background of group
I developed this curriculum and group concept during my time as a domestic violence educational group facilitator for military offenders. While facilitating the group, I was also seeing couples for marriage counseling. I noticed how most husbands and fathers, offenders or not, have a very incomplete and loosely informed philosophy and foundation regarding how to act in the two most important roles they play.
